WINTER LEAGUE REPORTS SECOND HALF 5TH WEEK RESULTS

Tom and Bob Williams team dropped to second place at the 5th week of league play in the second half. Team Bob and Eric Soltis moved into first place with 58 wins to 57.5 wins for the William Team. The Winter League features 10 teams in the competition. The money awards  are listed on the Results Page. The top team in the First, Second and Combined standings will earn $68.50, according to Tom Williams the League Coordinator. LAKE ORION CLUB OFFERS FULL HOUSE
 

Mike and Cathy Ardelean were Tournament Directors for the November third indoor tournament of the 2007-08 schedule. The Lake Orion Club sponsored this tournament with a full house of players (24) seeded in five classes. Mike serves as the Lake Orion Tournament and Promotion  Director and in his spare time is the Editor of the WSHPA Newsletter, the Ringer Report.  

The Union City Horseshoe club will sponsor the November 17th indoor tournament at the Jackson Club indoor facilities. The last indoor tournament for 2007 will be sponsored by our Jackson County Horseshoe Club on December 1st. The entire 2008 Indoor Tournaments Schedule through March 2008 is below.

FIRST HALF TOP THREE WINNERS WERE:

Bone Island Grille with 152.5 wins topped the list, with Brooklyn Tire in second place with 143 wins. Muffler Man notched third place with 141.5 in the win column.  Winning team members are Pete, Bob, Jas and Bryan Soltis plus Irv. Congrates to both the top three teams as well as all the other 13 teams that made the first half a great effort. We owe Tom Williams a pat on the back for the great job he does in keeping the league statistics up to date.  Tom spends several hours each week summarizing the results. THANK YOU TOM!

TEDRICK AND RYAN INDUCTED INTO WSHPA HALL OF FAME

Bill Tedrick and Rex Ryan were inducted into the Wolverine State Horseshoe Association Hall of Fame during the State Horseshoe Championship Tournament held at Taylor, Michigan on September 1-3. Fred Smith, member of the Hall of Fame Committee, presented the Award at the awards ceremony. 

Tedrick and Ryan were cited for their long WSHPA membership and their work at the local level over the many years of NHPA and WSHPA members.  Ryan organized the local Hillsdale Fairground Group and served as Coordinator for the Horseshoe Tournaments at the annual Hillsdale County Fair for many years.  Tedrick assumed the coordinator duties in 2003 and the Hillsdale Fairground Horseshoe Club was organized that year.

The Hillsdale Fairground Horseshoe Club sponsors the County Fair Tournaments as part of the fair program that usually attracts over 100 tournament pitchers during the fair. The Club also conducts a Summer Horseshoe League that pitches every Thursday evening from late April through August. Some 25 local horseshoe pitchers participated in the 2007 Summer League program.  The club held nine tournaments during the 2007 Hillsdale County Fair

A BIT OF NHPA HISTORY

IN 1989, PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH AND BARBARA BUSH INVITED SEVERAL NHPA PITCHERS  TO THE WHITE HOUSE TO CHRISTEN HIS NEW HORSESHOE COURT.  ELEVEN NHPA MEMBERS, INCLUDING DAVE LOUCKS,  PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY-TREASURER, DONNIE ROBERTS WERE INVITED.  THE PHOTOS BELOW SHOW A BIT OF NHPA HISTORY THAT MOST LIKELY WON'T BE REPEATED SOON. THE COURTS WERE REMOVED FROM THE WHITE HOUSE DURING THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION. MANY DIGNITARIES WERE ALSO PRESENT INCLUDING SEVERAL GOVERNORS AND WASHINGTON GOVERNMENTAL LEADERS.
